A paralyzed Idaho man was awarded $5.7 million in damages resulting from a medical mistake.Nathan Ogden was a patient at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise when the accident occurred. Mr. Ogden was already partially paralyzed from a skiing accident. The medical malpractice lawsuit ended with the hospital's attorneys agreeing to the amount.

The accident in the hospital occurred when a hospital employee failed to secure Mr. Ogden before lowering his gurney’s side guard. Mr. Ogden was unconscious at the time and was haphazardly propped up by the employee.  Mr. Ogden then fell to the floor, breaking his neck and paralyzing his upper body.

In addition to the upper body paralysis, Mr. Ogden lost control of his bowel and bladder functions as well.
