Lawmakers to vote on Illinois medical malpractice caps
2005-03-25
Illinois state lawmakers say a deal that would lower doctors' medical malpractice insurance costs is imminent. According to Democrats in the House and Senate, meetings among doctors, hospitals and Democratic legislative leaders have produced an agreement that could be voted on as early as tomorrow.
The proposal would cap some Illinois medical malpractice lawsuit awards, as well as strengthen state regulation of bad doctors and insurance companies, according to lawmakers.
Both Republicans and doctors say they are waiting to see the final details of the proposal but are encouraged by the progress so far.
