Woman Files $1.25M Suit Over Botched Breast Reduction Surgery

An Indiana woman filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor and hospital claiming they misrepresented the doctor’s credentials, which led to a botched breast surgery.

Ivelisse Martinez alleges she suffers from disfigurement and permanent nerve damage when she underwent a medically necessary breast reduction surgery.

The lawsuit accuses Dr. Jung-II Park of incorrectly performing the breast procedure causing Martinez to undergo life-long damages. She was forced to have additional, corrective surgeries, which were unsuccessful because of the “tissue loss and horrific scarring,” the complaint states.

Furthermore, the suit accuses St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Systems and Park of misrepresenting his credentials. He allegedly posed as a board certified cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon when in fact he is a certified neck and head surgeon.

A medical review panel, which heard the claim, ruled the hospital violated the standard of care when it negligently misrepresented Park’s board certification and training.

Martinez seeks $1.25 million in monetary compensation and punitive damages for her losses and suffering.
