Suit Filed Against Hospital for Deadly Blood Transfusion

The family of a woman who recently died at a hospital in Chicago is filing a suit against the facility blaming the iv error for her unexpected death.

The woman reportedly received a series of blood transfusions before passing away, due allegedly, to contaminated blood.

Family Accuses Hospital

The family of Bertha Bain is suing the Swedish Covenant Hospital and Life Source Blood Services.

According to the suit, Bertha Bain’s blood transfusions were contaminated.

Woman Dies from Bad Blood

Bertha Bain was a patient at the hospital from June thru November 2005.

In the summer of 2005, she supposedly received a series of blood transfusions at Swedish Covenant.

When Bain contracted Hepatitis B that fall and she began having multi-organ failure, her husband, Leonard, and daughter, Doreen Kaplan, claimed that the only way she could have developed the virus was due to the blood transfusions.

On November 5, 2005, Bertha died and her family is accusing Life Source and Swedish Covenant of being negligent.

The family is seeking an unstated amount of money, which is reportedly “in excess of the jurisdictional limits.”
