Doctor Error Leads to Suit at BRMC
A suit was recently filed against Baxter Regional Medical Center in Arkansas for the wrongful death of a patient caused by doctor error.
The lawsuit claims that because of miscommunication between the surgical team and negligence in setting up anesthesia equipment, a fire began in the patient’s trachea.
Family Sues Medical Center
Carol Derham, 65, was admitted to BRMC for a four-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting when the complications occurred.
The burns allegedly complicated Derham’s recovery process, which resulted in her having to be fed through a tube and eventually dying.
BRMC, Continental Casualty Company, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Louis Elkins Jr. and anesthesiologist Dr. Charles W. Armistead Jr. are named in the suit.
Lawsuit Seeks Compensation
According to court documents, the suit is seeking an unspecified amount for mental and emotional anguish.
The family is also asking to be compensated for funeral expenses and medical expenses.
