Man Sues Doctor, Hospital for Misdiagnosis

An Illinois man who says he suffered physical pain and deformity because of a misdiagnosis has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the emergency room doctor who treated him and the hospital.

Michael A. Bowen alleges that he was treated for an injury to his left hand at Memorial Hospital’s emergency room in November 2003. According to the complaint, Dr. Keith Mullenger released Bowen after reviewing x-rays and determining that “no fracture, dislocation, unusual soft tissue calcification, or other abnormality” had been suffered.

In April 2004, Bowen sought a second medical opinion on his injuries from an independent orthopedic surgeon who said he had suffered an undiagnosed fracture.

Bowen is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.
