Rehab Center Blamed in Medical Malpractice Suit
A suit was recently filed against the Healthsouth Rehabilitation Center-Beaumont claiming that they are responsible for the failure to prevent a client from injuring himself.
The medical malpractice suit blames the center for allowed the patient to fall out of his bed, which resulted in the fracture of his hip.
According to reports, William Ethridge was admitted to the rehabilitation center and was in need of strict fall precautions.
“The orders were given to keep Mr. Ethridge’s bed in low position and to use fall precautions. On the day of his admission, Mr. Ethridge was found on the floor complaining of pain to his right hip with a laceration to his forehead,” explained the suit.
Ethridge was then taken to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital where he was supposedly diagnosed with a right hip fracture and was found to have a laceration to his forehead.
The suit says that the facility was negligent for failing to exercise the diligence that would have been exercised by other health care providers.
The suit also accuses the center of the following:
• Failing to actively perform ongoing nursing assessments on the patient to be aware of potential problems
• Failing to put care plans into place for the patient
• Failing to put in bed and chair alarms
