Hospitalized Kids at High Risk of Infection

According to a recent study, children who are hospitalized are suffering from various infections and other preventable complications.

As a result of the increase in infections at hospitals throughout the country, children are being forced to extend their stay, which is costing millions.

Hospitals Questioned

Researchers reportedly found that complications have occurred in four percent of children treated at 38 children’s hospitals across the U.S.

The study conducted shows that children are about three times more susceptible to infections in hospitals than adults.

Hospitals can be better maintained and children can be safer with simply techniques such as sterilization and preventative antibiotic treatments.

Research Exposed

The medical records of thousands of children who were hospitalized in 2006 were recently analyzed by researchers.

They found that several complications kept re-occurring such as infections from catheters, bedsores and foreign objects being left in children after surgery.

The study revealed that more than 6,600 children suffered from infections and other health complications during the year.
