Medical misdiagnosis case begins
Opening statements have begun after a Mississippi man filed a civil case after suffering permanent injuries from undergoing brain surgery intended for another patient. The man sued a surgeon and radiologist in September 2001 after alleging the doctors misdiagnosed him as having terminal brain cancer. The medical misdiagnosis lawsuit alleges the doctors improperly reviewed MRI scans and other scans of the man before the operation and did not notice the MRI films examined before and after the operation had a different patient's name on it.
According to the medical misdiagnosis lawsuit, the man believed for months he had cancer and underwent a biopsy in August 2000 to remove brain tissue for testing. This is when the man claims the doctors misinterpreted his films for those of another patient at the hospital.
