$24M Settlement Reached in Medmal Suit
A settlement was recently reached in an ongoing medmal suit filed by a man living in Illinois.
The jury awarded the man $24 million for the injuries he supposedly suffered while he was a patient at a local hospital.
Plaintiff Injured at Hospital
According to reports, Adam Porter, 34, was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital in 2001 to have a kidney stone removed.
While he was a patient at the hospital, Porter went into cardiac arrest and the flow of oxygen to his brain was stopped.
As a result of the complication, the plaintiff is now confined to a wheelchair and his fine motor skills are reportedly impaired.
The lawsuit also claims that Porter has severe double vision and slurred speech.
Doctor and Nurse Held Responsible
Last week, a LaSalle County Judge and the jury found Dr. John Podzamsky and nurse practitioner, Patricia Duffield guilty of negligence in caring for Porter.
Both defendants are now being forced to pay their former patient $24 million, according to the settlement.
