Nerve Damage Suit Settled

A medical malpractice suit was recently settled in Illinois for $548,000 against a surgeon who reportedly acted negligently during a procedure.

The suit claims that the surgeon’s mistake led the plaintiff to have chronic, disabling pain and also caused the loss of her left kidney.

Woman Sues for Botched Surgery

Toni Pratt, 59, was admitted to Springfield clinic to undergo an abdominal procedure, which she claims went horribly wrong.

According to reports, Dr. Michael Fenner unknowingly removed a section of Pratt’s ureter, which is the tube through which urine flows from the kidney to the bladder, during the surgery.

Surgeon Ignores Complaints

When Pratt voiced her complaints to Dr. Fenner she claims “he didn’t listen to me and told me to just take more pain medication.”

After learning that she had an infection in her abdomen, Pratt had to undergo another surgery by another doctor, which left her with nerve damage.

Suit Settled

Pratt filed the suit against Dr. Fenner claiming that she would never have had nerve damage if it were not for his mistake.

The jury reportedly awarded her $59, 200 to cover medical expenses, $154,000 for future and past lost earnings and $335,000 for non-economic damages.
