New Rule Regarding Malpractice Proposed in NC
A new rule is set to be implemented in the state of North Carolina that will enable residents to go online and see whether or not a doctor has made malpractice payments.
The new rule was created by the N.C. Medical Board and hopes to better inform patients about their doctors and the kind of healthcare they’ll be receiving.
New Rule Exposes Doctors
This new rule will face legislative review in the upcoming year and will require doctors and physician assistants to reports malpractice payments made after October, 2007.
The doctors who will be exposed under this rule will be those who have had to pay fees for malpractice over the amount of $25, 000.
According to reports, the medical board has faced a lot of opposition from hospitals and doctors regarding the rule.
Online Profiles Set Up
As part of the rule, online profiles are going to be set up for doctors and physician assistants throughout North Carolina.
These profiles will inform the public of any medical malpractice cases the doctors have been involved with along with criminal records and background information.
“It’s just a way of becoming transparent,” explains Jean Fisher Brinkley, a spokeswoman for the medical board.
