Suit Filed After Mother Dies During Pregnancy
A medical malpractice suit was recently filed after a mother died during the birth of her brain-dead child.
The woman was reportedly kept on life support in order to sustain the pregnancy and now her husband is suing the doctor involved.
Jason Torres, the father of Susan Anne and husband to Susan Michelle Torres, recently filed a suit against physician Walter D. Dixon.
Dr. Dixon treated Jason’s wife in 2005 at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
The lawsuit accuses Dixon of being responsible for the death of the mother and the daughter, who died only five weeks after the birth.
Jason Torres says that the doctor ignored what he thought were “morning sickness” symptoms that were a part of a larger problem.
Among the symptoms were memory lapses, which were later revealed as being bleeding to the brain.
It was also found that the woman was suffering from melanoma at the time of the birth.
Emergency Medical Associates, the company who employs Dixon and contracts ER physicians to the hospital, is also named as a defendant in the suit.
