Man Files $200,000 Malpractice Suit Due To Surgical Error
An Air Force veteran who lost his cancer-free testicle as a result of a surgical error has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a California veterans hospital seeking $200,000 in monetary compensation for his losses and suffering.
Forty-seven-year-old Benjamin Houghton had scheduled an operation to remove his potentially cancerous left testicle at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affair Medical Center. However, the surgeons negligently removed his healthy right testicle instead.
Houghton and his wife Monica brought a lawsuit against the hospital and the doctors for negligent treatment, claiming that, as a result of the surgical mistake, they suffered both economic and non-economic losses.
The medical malpractice suit follows a wave of public criticism over the country’s leading veterans facility—Washington, D.C.’s Walter Reed Medical Center—which has been accused of providing substandard care to patients.
