Doctor Implicated in Medical Malpractice Changes Name
A Wilmington, North Carolina surgeon who is facing dozens of medical malpractice lawsuits has changed his name. An attorney representing the doctor recently stated that the doctor changed his name in order to have a new start in life and that the doctor does not intend to practice medicine under his new or his old name.
Dr. Steven Olchowski changed his name to Dr. Steven Hawkins. Dr. Hawkins lost medical licenses in both North Carolina and Michigan, following several lawsuits relating to negligent care that he was found guilty of performing.
Dr. Olchowski was a gastric bypass surgeon who had lied to several of his patients regarding the procedure. In documents presented during several suits, Dr. Olchowski also had performed many operations using “short-cut” methods that ultimately led to serious and threatening medical complications.
While Dr. Olchowski’s medical licenses have been revoked, he has not gone to trial for any medical malpractice related charges.
