Pennsylvania medical malpractice crisis fabricated according to legal advocates.
The President of The Committee for Justice for All, Robert Powell, cited a federal government report supporting the group’s claims that there is no Pennsylvania medical malpractice crisis despite what doctors are claiming. Powell believes the GAO study was not made widely public intentionally because it refutes national tort reform agendas. According to the GAO study, the findings indicate the AMA misled federal and state legislators, doctors, and the general public by claiming skyrocketing medical malpractice premiums are in response to “frivolous” lawsuits. Republicans ironically funded the GAO medical malpractice study but may have hoped to have different findings. For Pennsylvania, the GAO report found that the crisis, according to data, was unfounded, with “no evidence” that Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawsuits had contributed to spikes in insurance rates. The group believes the GAO study only confirmed that the medical lobby has been using unsubstantiated claims for its own agenda.
