Lawyer fight hard against Washington medical malpractice proposal

Severe Washington medical malpractice cases will be extremely affected if the malpractice liability proposal backed by doctors and insurers to limit jury awards is passed. The Washington medical malpractice victims will have a maximum of $350,000 awarded on pain, suffering, and lost enjoyment of life damages.

The Washington State Trial Lawyers Association president has called on its members to “re-examine” if campaign money should be contributed to GOP senators following the Republican state Senate’s Washington medical malpractice damage cap and other civil liability limits that was passed. Lawyers believe the Washington medical malpractice caps would destroy company and government incentive to better prevent instances of medical malpractice injuries resulting from negligence.

This year, the trial lawyer association fought hard against the Washington medical malpractice bills, spending $156,785 lobbying against the Legislature. Capping Washington medical malpractice awards would only further victimize patients that have become permanently affected by Washington medical malpractices physically, mentally, and emotionally. Washington medical malpractices like brain damage and other serious injuries will only endure more hardships due to the financial difficulties that comes with severe medical malpractices.
